What’s the difference between Outdoor and Indoor lenses?

EnChroma Cx3 Sun Lenses are designed to enhance colour vision in outdoor in bright sunlight or partly cloudy conditions and also serve as sunglasses delivering 100% UV blocking and glare protection. EnChroma’s Cx3 Outdoor lenses deliver the maximum colour enhancement effect due to the combination of bright colourful light and their lens technology. Available in Cx3 Sun for most types of Colour Blindness and Cx3 Sun SP for Strong Protans.

EnChroma Cx2 Shade Lenses are an ideal choice to enhance colour vision in partly cloudy or cloudy conditions. When Cx3 Sun lenses would be too dark, select Cx2 Shade. People who live in cloudy geographical regions or dislike very dark sunglasses will find the most benefit from this lens type. Cx2 Shade lenses provide 100% UV blocking and glare protection and are uniquely tuned to deliver the same vibrant colour as Cx3 Sun lenses, even in the lower light conditions. Available in Cx2 Shade for most types of colour blindness and Cx2 Shade SP for Strong Protans.

EnChroma Cx1 Indoor Lenses are designed to be used in typical indoor lighting conditions to enhance colour vision while performing activities such as school work, cooking, watching movies, browsing the web, and art projects. The Cx1 Indoor lenses best manage the effects of low light in conditions of less brightness and available colour. Two custom lens types, Indoor and Indoor DT, are tuned to the special needs of either protans or deutans, to ensure the right solution. For best results, the glasses should be used with bright, full-spectrum lighting.

What lens should I choose if I’m purchasing a gift and don’t know their type of colour blindness?

Encourage them to take the EnChroma Colour Blind Test to determine their type of colour blindness. When that is not possible, choose our most popular and versatile lens, the Cx3 Sun. If you are considering getting them both, we recommend the Cx3 Sun and the Cx1 Indoor.

What are Cx Lenses and do the names have any significance?

At EnChroma, we like to think of “Cx” like an Rx for colour vision deficiency. And like prescriptions, we’ve tuned each of the types of Cx Series lenses for the two critical requirements for seeing colour best, i.e. the right lens filter design and the darkness required for available light. That means that the 6 lenses are specially designed based on whether you are a Deutan or Protan and the usual light for where you live. See table A for recommended lens types. In addition, lenses are titled 3, 2, or 1 to correspond to an international standard used to categorize the darkness of lenses. Choose Cx 3 lenses (15% light transmission) as sunglasses for bright sun, Cx2 lenses (25% light transmission) for cloudy, less brightly lit geographies or if sunglasses are usually too dark, and Cx1 lenses (either 50% or 60% light transmission) for indoors and nighttime.

NOTICE: EnChroma lenses are an assistive device intended to aid colour perception and improve colour discrimination, but do not give the wearer normal colour vision. Wearing of filtering eyewear of any type is not permitted while taking colour blindness tests, including the Ishihara test and the EnChroma Colour Blindness Test.
